DOUBLE ROOM - Less Than Forty Exhibition at UM | Coral Gables | FL
The double room is intended to be a most basic architectural experience and hence the piece is tectonic in nature. The materials and their attachments/joinery are obvious. The installation is self-referential and engages the viewer from several points of view while providing a double reference of time. The piece is site specific in that it engages the central space of the gallery and invites the visitor to turn around from the NC-office exhibit and experience the gallery space as a whole. Furthermore, the piece responds to two scales - that of the group within the gallery, and a more private experience as the individual is invited and enclosed by the screen and in turn presented with several images of NC-office’s work.
