This piece of furniture appears to be a freestanding table, however it only has two legs - the rear of the table is attached to the wall. The table serves a basic utalitarian purpose - to hold keys, wallet, mail, etc. However it’s main intent is to conceal the return-air intake grille, which in-turn is routed into the walnut panels behind.
