EL HUECO - DawnTown Floating Stage Competition | Miami
The basic premise of the scheme was to define space in dialectical opposition to the marine stadium’s (roof from above) by providing an iverted ‘hat’ from below. The elliptical shape provides for varied experiences as one arrives to ‘el hueco’ by boat or as one witnesses a performance from the marine stadium and other such local venues. The edge of the project was thickened in order to provide an opportunity for various levels of seating and stages. Furthermore, the thick walls contain ballast tanks to maintain the barge at a proper vertical datum. ‘El hueco’ can easily be towed into position. 'El hueco' provides for a variety of relationships between performer and audience in an attempt to reposition the established norms of entertainment.
